When to travel to Thailand?

October to February: the best season
This is when you should go to Thailand. The weather is dry and not too hot. During the day it is around 25 to 30 degrees, cooling down pleasantly in the evening. The skies are clear.
January and February are the most popular months. Expect many travellers, full hostels, and busy pagodas in Chiang Mai. Prices are higher, but there is a reason: the weather is perfect for trekking in the mountains, boat trips, and caves like Tham Lod in Pai.
October and November are quieter and still beautiful. You pay less and see fewer tourists. It can still rain a little in early October, but that clears up quickly.
- January and February are busy, so book your activities in advance.

May to September: hot, wet and affordable
This is the monsoon and low season. It rains a lot, and it is warm and humid. Temperatures rise above 30 degrees, with rain usually falling in the afternoon. Many places along the coast are closed or half-deserted, which is not pleasant.
What speaks in its favour? Prices are significantly lower: hotels, flights, and food sometimes cost half as much. There are far fewer tourists. The mountains are green and wild, and guides have more time for you.
What speaks against it? Boat trips are risky in rough seas. Some islands are unreachable. It rains so much that you might find yourself stuck indoors. Not ideal if you just want to lie on the beach.
- June to September are the cheapest months, but the weather is uncertain.
- Avoid these months if you are going to Phuket or Pattaya, as the coast is not beautiful.
How to prepare, regardless of when
Thailand is well prepared for tourists. Bangkok is a major flight hub for Southeast Asia, with many cheap flights to Vietnam, Cambodia, and beyond.
At least two things are important. First: if you are going to border regions (Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar), bring antimalarial medication against mosquitoes. Ask your doctor about it. Second: download the LINE app. WhatsApp works poorly; almost all Thais use LINE. You need it to reach your accommodation and guides.
Scams are common in busy tourist areas. Be careful, as both Thai and foreign scammers operate there. Use your common sense.
