The weather in August
August is hot and humid. In the middle of the day, it's sometimes hard to do much at all. It does vary by location: the north is different from the islands, and the east coast is different from the west coast.
Most travellers pick November to February for Thailand, when it's cooler and drier. But the country is open all year round. August works fine, as long as you prepare for it.

What to do in August
