Most tourists settle in Cairo and Giza. But the real Egypt happens beyond them. Small villages in the green Nile valley feel very different from the big cities.
The White Desert has limestone formations you won't see anywhere else. At camel markets, you don't just buy animals - you meet real traders and their families. Hidden ruins lie kilometres from the tourist routes.

How to spend money without getting ripped off
In big tourist areas, sellers sometimes try to charge you way too much. Even a small bottle of water can suddenly become expensive. Haggling is part of the deal - they even expect it.
Outside the tourist areas, it's best not to take public transport on your own. Buses and minibuses run irregularly, and routes change without warning. Arrange transport through your hotel or guide.
