Three days of action in South Africa
Three days is short, but enough for South Africa. You have to choose: adrenaline or water, not both. October is warm, and you have time for one big kick and one big moment in nature. There's no room for anything more in such a short trip.

Friday and Saturday: one adrenaline choice
Pick one thing and do it properly. Bungee jumping from 216 metres, skydiving, or zip-lining through the jungle. These are the activities you fly to South Africa for.
Here is what you don't do: long car journeys to national parks. Kruger is beautiful, but three hours there and three hours back means you barely have time to see any animals.
Call ahead. Backpackers and activity companies are full in October. Don't wait until you arrive.
- Bungee jumping here is one of the highest in the world.
- Call backpackers at least a day in advance to secure a room.
The jungle hums beneath you, the bridge disappears under your feet.South Africa
Saturday and Sunday: water
The second day is for the water. Whale watching from a boat, or cage diving with white sharks if you really want to feel it.
Here is what you don't do: two things at once. You won't have time for shopping streets, museums or long walks on the beach. Choose your activity and enjoy it fully.
- Whales are there in October. A half-day trip is enough.
- Cage diving usually takes half a day, including preparation.
Before you leave: the practical side
Buy a SIM card on the spot (about 25 dollars). You'll need it for emergencies and to arrange your accommodation in advance. Wifi in restaurants is slow and unreliable.
If you break down, don't leave the motorway. Never stop by the roadside. Call for help.
Malaria pills? Only needed in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Zululand and near the Mozambique border. Not needed for the rest of the country.
- Worried about malaria? Malarone has fewer side effects than other pills.
- If you break down, don't stop: call for assistance instead.
