Porto

Sitio

Sitio lies away from Porto's busy squares, and that is exactly why it is worth visiting. You can wander around here peacefully without groups of people around you. This is one of the quietest places in the entire city. Just take your time to wander, without a set route.

Porto is best discovered in the places no guidebook points you to.

Praia do Norte

Praia do Norte is a beach on the coast, just outside the city, where the Atlantic Ocean shows itself at full strength. It is a rugged, open landscape, very different from Porto's narrow streets. Come here mainly for the wind and the waves, not for a day of swimming.

Porto Cathedral

At Porto Cathedral, high on the hill, you get one of the best views over the city. You look out over the red roofs all the way to the river. The soft, low sun colours the roofs gold. There is no car park, and few tourists come here specifically for the view; they simply walk inside.

Vinum

Vinum is a restaurant in Porto where you can have one of the best meals in the city. You eat there with a view of the river and the wine cellars on the other side. After a long day of walking, this is the place to sit down quietly and taste the local cuisine.

Dom Luís I Bridge

The Dom Luís I Bridge has two levels, and each feels different. On top, you get a wide view over the river and the wine cellars. Below, you walk just above the water, weaving between the boats.

Livraria Lello

Livraria Lello is a bookshop with wooden staircases and coloured glass in the ceiling, tucked away in an ordinary shopping street. Entry costs 8 euros, but that amount is deducted if you buy a book. Book your ticket online and you skip the queue.
