Central Delft
You walk along canals and past old facades without the crowds you'd find in Amsterdam. In October it's quiet enough to wander without a plan, a good place to spend an afternoon doing nothing but looking.
The Netherlands reveals its best side just beyond the well-worn paths.Netherlands
The Biesbosch
The Biesbosch is a freshwater delta full of small creeks and islands. You hire a canoe and paddle through the reeds, or walk the paths with their wooden bridges. A place where you let nature be exactly what it is.
The Veluwe
You can walk for hours through forests and heathland without a town in sight. You feel straight away how much space this region has: the complete opposite of the crowded Randstad.
The neighbourhood bakery
Skip the big bread chains and find a proper bakery nearby. There you can buy fresh bread and pastries made fresh every day. In October it's lovely to walk into a market or park with a warm roll in your hands, a small moment that feels entirely Dutch.

The weekly market
Almost every Dutch city has a market on the central square at least once a week. You'll find stalls with fresh vegetables, fruit and familiar Dutch cheeses. For little money you can buy a meal that's fresh and local. Walk through in October and taste what the stallholders recommend.
